Harnessing the Power of Camel Milk: FRC's Sustainable Soap Development

In the United Arab Emirates, camels have a special place in both culture and economy. These robust animals are perfectly adapted to the harsh desert environment, which has made them play a crucial role in the survival and culture of UAE populations for centuries. They provide not only means of transport and labor, but also essential nutritional resources, in particular camel milk. Often referred to as “white gold”, camel milk is a valuable resource coming from these animals and is renowned for its rich nutritional values. Nowadays this resource still being highly appreciated and can be used for further extends (skincare, alimentation and else). While carefully collecting it, the camel milk utilization not only allow the promotion of UAE resources itself, but also its singular natural properties. AT the FRC, we are deeply committed to celebrating and preserving the rich heritage of the UAE. This is also the reason why we’re working on a solid soap development, with camel milk at the heart of the formula. Hence, our upcoming solid soap is a testament to this commitment, ensuring the highest quality but also support local communities and sustainable farming practice. First of all, let’s take a look at Camel milk itself: It is distinguished by its particular composition, quite different from that of other milks. It contains a wide range of nutrients and components, each offering different properties. Here's a quick overview of some of the key ingredients that will have a significant impact on the soap's future properties. -Lactoferrin, is an iron-binding protein with powerful antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, which makes it a valuable skin-health enhancer. -Camel milk is also enriched with immunoglobulins, contributing to the functionality of the immune system and ensuring additional skin protection against pathogens. -The high vitamin C and D, calcium and potassium levels also contribute to nourishing and rejuvenating the skin. -Naturally occurring alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) , aid gentle exfoliation, promoting cell turnover and smooth skin texture. -The lipids and proteins in camel milk act as a protective barrier to help retain moisture, and keep skin hydrated for longer. -And finally, Camel milk has a low allergenicity potential, its proteins are less likely to trigger allergic reaction (compared to cow one for example). All these properties are an immense asset that can be used in various fields of application. Moreover, the large range of benefits of camel milk are already well-studied and supported by science. This is also one of the reasons encouraging us to create a new product based on camel milk. At the FRC, we've decided to begin with a solid soap, a sustainable product that makes the most of this local resource. To start with, we sourced camel milk from our local “Bullaïda” farms, adhering to stringent ethical and sustainable practices. Once the milk has been collected, the soap-making procedure can be started. Camel milk is mixed with natural oils and sodium hydroxide (NaOH), triggering a chemical reaction that results in the formation of soap and glycerin. In addition to camel milk, we also incorporate natural essential oils and antioxidants that are selected for their complementary properties to enhance the soap's effectiveness. The saponification process chosen is called “cold saponification”. This method allows to preserve a maximum of milk and oil properties and beneficial compounds. This process requires several weeks of “curing” during which, the ingredients will react together, and progressively harden until developing its full spectrum of beneficial properties. Our commitment to sustainable development is reflected at every stage of our manufacturing process. By sourcing local products and using environmentally friendly packaging, we seek to minimize our ecological footprint. Furthermore, our ethical mindset and practices guarantee the well-being of the camels and surrounding communities. We're really looking forward to introducing you to our definitive product, and until then, we'll keep on perfecting it.
